A Beautiful Message from a Member of the Lema J Community

For every Special Edition Karma for Cara Cuff sold, a second cuff is donated as a gift of love and hope to a leukemia patient. Words such as those from Yves inspire us. We are blessed that he and Sharon are part of the Lema J community, and and we are grateful that Cara’s dream lives on through the vision and work of the Karma for Cara Foundation. Read his beautiful message below.

"Dear Jill:

My son met you several months back at an event.

You were the kindest person in the world to give my son to pass on to my wife Sharon, a cuff of support. Sharon has not taken the cuff off. You see Sharon was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia about 20 months ago. We have gone through the most difficult period of our lives. Sharon underwent 3 rounds of consolidated chemo and 1 round of induction chemo. Sharon was scheduled to do a bone marrow transplant. During the testing, Sharon caught a deadly pneumonia which landed her in the ICU for 2 months and nearly took her life. This pneumonia made the transplant an impossibility. I though it was the end, but we never gave up, and we continued our prayers to our GOD. Well then, a miracle happened. Sharon continued in remission to the dismay of all of the doctors - you see there was a 95% chance of a relapse, and NO RELAPSE OCCURED. But we are not out of the woods yet. Sharon is now 17 months in relapse. If Sharon can remain a full 24 months in remission, Sharon will be considered cured. So we have 7 months to go, and with the grace of GOD, Sharon will be cured. Our lives are normal again, and tomorrow we are traveling to Brazil for a 3 week vacation for the first time since this happened.

I hope that this story does not make you feel bad or angry, but I only have one thing to say. It is because of CARA that Sharon is alive today.

Sharon and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your gift, your thoughts, and for your dedication to helping people of this dreadful disease. If it was not for people like you and CARA, Sharon would not be here today to see our grandchildren grow up.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Yves Malki"
